Magnetic investigation of site of proposed compass swinging base, East Arm, Darwin

The purpose of the investigation was to determine the degree of uniformity of the earth's magnetic field, particularly with regard to magnetic Declination (or Variation), over an area on which it is proposed to construct a compass swinging base for land swinging of aircraft. Field work commenced on 11th December and terminated on 18th December. Instruments used comprised: Theodolite-Magnetometer and Earth Induction No.18, a Declinometer attachment fitted to a theodolite, and a vertical force Variometer. The results of the survey are presented in this report. Diagrams showing the results of the magnetic investigations, and a locality plan are included.
